Mason City, Iowa
IDM was hired as a Development Consultant by Wright on the Park organization to restore the last Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world.
Playing dual roles in the renovation and development, IDM worked for more than a year with the Board of Directors, owner and the development team to effectively position the 28-room hotel called The Historic Park Inn Hotel. Other work included consulting on financing, tax credits, programming, planning and hiring an interior designer.
Wright’s Historic Park Inn Hotel is the last standing example of the architect’s six built hotels. The project totaled close to $20 million and opened in September 2011.
More about the property: The National City Bank and Park Inn Hotel were both designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in his early architectural style called Prairie School. Characterized by wide overhangs, low proportions and use of natural building materials, the style set the tone in Mason City. Wright was commissioned by the community to design a modern bank, office and hotel in the city’s bustling city center.
